As a student from Shaanxi Normal University, you are invited to take this great opportunity to experience international education by undertakingthis 3+1+1 programmes between Shaanxi Normal University and the University of Waikato.
Detailed information about this programme is as follows:
1. Study Abroad Programme (2 semesters)
This forms the first “1” of the 3+1+1. Upon completion of the first three years of study with SNNU, you could choose to spend the final year of the Bachelor’s degree study with the UW as a study abroad student. You can enroll at the UW for two semesters for up to 70 credit points each semester and credit study to your SNNU degree.If you successfully complete the courses at UW and meet the degree requirements at SNNU, you will be awarded with a Bachelor’s degree from SNNU.
Please note: no qualification will be awarded from UW for your study for the Study Abroad Programme. Courses you have taken will be considered as Individual Paper Credits (IPC). It is suggested that you consult your departments at SNNU prior to course selection to make sure that courses could be credited back to your SNNU degree. Also if you are considering proceeding with Master degree study at UW upon completion of your Bachelor’s Degree study, please consult the relevant departmentsat UW to make sure the course selection is appropriate to allow you to meet the entry requirements.
Entrance Requirements
At the time of their enrolment at the University of Waikato, you must have:
- Achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5.
· Provided satisfactory evidence of English language proficiency, generally in the form of an equivalency of IELTS 6.0 with 6 in Writing Band. An internal test may be available from UW subject to the number of applicants.
o If you have an English language proficiency of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent, it is possible for you to enroll in one block of Academic English between Sep 23 and Nov 1. Upon successful completion of the Academic English programme (with a B Grade average)you will be able to enroll in T Semester (Nov – Dec 2013), S Semester (Jan – Feb 2014) and A Semester (March – June 2014) for a total of 100 credit points.
FEES
In 2013 the standard tuition package for all study abroad students will be NZ$23,300 for one academic year enrolment, which includes tuition for courses to a maximum of 70 credit points/semester, all enrolment-related charges, and forwarding of an academic transcript at the conclusion of each semester. (Normally 100 level course is worth 15 credit points each; 200/300/400 level course is worth 20 credit points each. However sometimes there are exceptions.)
Study Abroad packages do not include the costs of field trips, text books or any additional resources that may be required for the courses enrolled in.
In addition all international students will be required to have medical travel insurance.
APPLICATION PROCESS
If you are interested in applying, please follow the specified procedures:
1. Check with the Programme Manager at SNNU regarding the details of the programme and courses you could select;
2. Collect a copy of application form and Study Abroad Paper Selection Form from SNNU International Programs Office and fill in the forms;
3. Provide the original or certified/notarised copies of academic transcripts from SNNU—English version required
5. Provide evidence of English language proficiency.
6. Provide a verified copy of your passport.
7. Application to be submitted to the Program Manager at SNNU by April 15.
8. Offers from UW will be sent to the Program Manager at SNNU via email by May 1.
9. Visa application process between May and June
10. Semester starts in July.
2. Master Degree Programme
This forms the 2nd “1” of the 3+1+1. Upon completion of the study abroad programme, you could continue with postgraduate studies if you meet the entry criteria.

Academic Entrance Requirements
Upon completion of the study abroad year, you should have achieved a B+ (70+) Grade Average in order to proceed with the Master Degree Study.
In order to proceed with the Master degree study directly without having to take bridging courses, it is suggested that you consult the relevant departments prior to your choice of courses to make sure that you have enough subject courses at undergraduate level to prepare you for the direct entry into Master degree study.
FEES
The 2013 tuition fee for Master of Management Studies is $36,195. This covers the tuition fee for 180 credit points.
